Prof Kodandaram Arrested in Nizamabad District

Prof Kondandaram being arrested in Nizamabad district - Sakshi Post

Nizamabad: Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS) president Prof Kodandaram was arrested by police near here today and was shifted to Bikkanuru police station. Prof Kodandaram was on his way to meet New Democracy party leader Prabhakar. He said that they were heading towards Bikkanuru to get an insight into the problems of the farmers in the region and not to start any agitation. The TJS chief condemned the police high-handedness in the state.

Kodandaram said it was not right to impose Section 144 in 21 villages which had requested to use the leakage water from Pochampadu project. It was unfortunate that farmers' association and New Democracy leader Prabhakar was arrested and sent to remand. Meanwhile the police tried to shift Kodandaram to Hyderabad, but he resisted the police move.

Politicians have already stated that there was no inflow of water into Sriram Sagar project. It was also decided that the water from the project would be used only for drinking purpose and that the water will be released only after the inflow through flood waters. With this scenario in the background, there was a possibility of Prof Kodandaram and others starting an agitation near the project.

The police have made Sriram Sagar a fortress without allowing anybody near it and have also imposed Section 144 in the surrounding areas. From tomorrow, the Nizamabad police commissionarate jurisdiction would be under Sec 144 for five days. The section would be imposed on Nizamabad and Bodhan divisions from tomorrow 7 pm till August 10, 7 pm. Nizamabad police commissioner Karthikeya has made it clear that there was no permission for any protests.
