Telangana Tribal Students Unfurl Tricolor Atop Mount Kilimanjaro

Hyderabad: The Indian national Tricolor was unfurled atop Mount Kilimanjaro - the highest mountain in Africa situated in Tanjania - to mark Indian Independence Day on Monday. The feat was achieved by a team of Telangana tribal students of Social and Tribal Welfare Residential and KGVB after scaling the 4,900m tall mount.

The students reached the peak of the mount ‘Kuhroo’ on Sunday morning and unfurled the 20-ft National flag along with a picture of Chief Minsiter K Chandrasekhar Rao, said the Collector of Medak district Ronald Ross. Out of the 21-membered group, 17 students reached the top of the mount and 14 of them are women. As many as 9 of them belong to Kasturbha Vidyalays for Girls of Medak, he said.

The group had also Purna who scaled Everest including Timbagiri Majula, Godugu Ramya, Begari Anasuya, Markanti Nagamani, Lunawat Mounika, Gamani Marsamma, Lambabi Booli, Jala Kavitha, Eara Jyothi, Chiluka Kamala and Vavilla Puja, Dhugge Mounika, Rangagalla Balraju from Social Welfare Residential and two students Nalapothula Krishna, Guguloth Sundhu from Tribal Welfare School alongwith guides Raji Thammineni, Arjuna Award recipients Bimal Negi, B Shekhar Babu and Padma Sri Award recipient Gurumayum Anitha Devi.

The youngest girl of the adventurous group is Narsamma, who is 12 years old, belongs to Kolcharam village in Medak district. Additional SP of Adilabad district GR Radhika was also one of the members of the group who scaled Mount Kilimanjaro on Independence Day. She also scaled Mount Everest in the past.
