TRS Leadership In Damage Control Mode On Rebels

Telangana Rashtra Samithi - Sakshi Post

Karimnagar: The task of convincing the leaders who were disappointed with the list of 105 candidates announced by the ruling party in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections has turned into an uphill task for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leadership. Ever since caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) announced the 105 TRS contestants, several leaders across constituencies have been vocal when it comes to criticising the party leadership. Of the 14 Assembly constituencies in which the TRS is yet announce its candidates, Choppadandi constituency of Karimnagar district is one.

Sitting MLA (former) Bodige Shobha, it is learnt, has already begun ground work for her election campaign, and has already instructed the cadre that she will contest the election as a rebel candidate even if she were to be denied the party ticket. The MPPs, ZPTCs and local people's representatives from six Mandals in the constituency are publicly stating that they would work for the victory of any other candidate except Shobha.

In Vemulawada constituency, the Yadav community associations have recently held a rally demanding allotment of the TRS ticket to ZP Chairperson Thula Uma in place of sitting MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh. Also, second rung leaders of the party came together to hold a meeting at a venue in Vemulawada to express their dissatisfaction against the TRS's decision to field Ramesh in the constituency.

Speculation is rife that along with Uma, another prominent leader who is yet to join the TRS from a different party will also file nomination in the constituency. This will naturally, complicate matters.

Aspirants of the TRS ticket from Ramagundam constituency, senior leader Korukanti Chander, former city Mayor Konakati Lakshmi Narayana and ZPTC Chairperson Kandula Sandhya Rani are exerting pressure on the TRS party leadership to reconsider its decision to allot the ticket to sitting MLA Somarapu Satyanarayana. Chander, with the experience of fighting the election twice, has been given the responsibility of campaigning to his associates. He is keen on contesting as a TRS rebel leader.

In Manakondur constituency, it is a fight within the TRS, between sitting MLA Rasamayi Balakishan and Food Corporation Chairman Oruganti Anand. Amid opposition over the ticket to Rasamayi, supporters of Anand have already announced that their leader would contest as TRS rebel candidate.

Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha had to intervene in settling the issue over senior leader Oruganti Ramana Rao's preparations for contesting as a TRS rebel, after he was disappointed with the party's decision to allot the Jagtial Assembly ticket to senior leader Dr Sanjay Kumar.

Rumours of his likely entry into the Congress are proving to be another headache for TRS with respect to the three constituencies.

The opposition over the TRS candidates in Vemulawada, Ramagundam and Manakondur constituencies, however, has become a contentious one for the party leadership, since all the rebel candidates are equally influential and popular with the TRS candidates. According to analysts, the rebel leaders could turnout to be the deciding factor for TRS in the three constituencies.
