After Jagga Reddy, Gandra Brothers, All Eyes On Notes For Votes Case

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) led by party supremo K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), is moving ahead towards early assembly elections, riding the confidence that popular opinion is in its favour. It is this confidence which is seen reflected in the announcement of 105 candidates, not to speak of deft moves to be on the right side of both the BJP and the AIMIM, a task no one had quite managed to achieve.

The Congress is determined to stand up to the TRS electorally and has managed to stitch up a grand alliance of sorts. It has also roped in the Telugu Desam, a party which owes its origins to anti-Congressism. If party cadres on both sides of the fence are more than a bit embarrassed by this development, one can hardly blame them. Their single-minded objective appears to be to defeat the ruling TRS.

It is learnt that the Congress is willing to let go of 15 assembly seats and one Lok Sabha constituency to the TDP, while it will probably part with 4 assembly seats. The Congress wants to ensure that the opposition vote share does not get divided. It is likely to accommodate TJS and the CPM, as well, who are likely to get 6 seats and 4, in the bargain.

First it was the arrest of former Sanga Reddy MLA Jagga Reddy in a human trafficking case, by the Hyderabad Task Force police, followed by cases being registered under the Arms Act against former chief whip and Congress leader Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and his brother Bhupal Reddy.

And now Revanth Reddy former Kodangal MLA, has received notices from the police with respect to irregularities in Jubilee Hills Housing Society. Reddy sought three weeks time as he is busy with the elections, it is learnt.

The big question being asked by political observers is--will Notes-For-Votes case come up next. If it does, the political climate in the states of Telangana and AP will heat up beyond all expectations.

This case has been hanging fire for more than three years now. Chandrababu Naidu must be a worried man on one count. He is treading cautiously and has avoided criticism of KCR and his family so far. Will that save him from the Damocles sword hanging on his head?
