If Kumaraswamy Can Be CM, So Can I: Akbaruddin Owaisi

AIMIM floor leader in the Telangana Asembly which was dissolved on Thursday, Akbaruddin Owaisi made a sensational claim that if Kumaraswamy could become chief minister, there is no reason why Owaisi couldn't! In making this headline-grabbing comment, Owaisi has tried to project the importance of the MIM and the key role it hopes it would play in the forthcoming elections. The AIMIM leader has also thus highlighted the unpredictable nature of coalition politics which can make anyone a potential leader.

Recalling the words of his father, former Hyderabad MP, Salahuddin Owaisi, Akbar said: "Politics comes naturally to us," implying that it is in their genes. He added, “give us leadership”, seeking to make a political statement . Come November, the MIM would want to know who's ready to stand by the party, he said in his speech, which has gone viral.

Telangana caretaker chief minister on Thursday had referred to AIMIM as a friendly party and a cursory look at the list of candidates announced by the TRS chief further reinforces this point. In all the constituencies of the twin cities where AIMIM is a force, the TRS is likely to put up a token fight in the form of weak candidates.

In this context, Akbaruddin Owaisi's remarks, while they are true to his style, are out of sync with the plans of the TRS leadership.
