AP CM Chandrababu Naidu had announced that Vijayawada and the VGTM (Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri) region would be the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. Though he has not announced the place officially, speculation is that the new capital would be near Achampet near Guntur.

Giving credence to the speculations, there were reports that industrialist-politician Sujana Chowdary is all set to set up a industry in Gudimetla village in Chandarlapadu mandal upstream of Prakasam Barrage.
According to reliable sources, Satyavathi Minerals and Metals Company belongs to the family members of Sujana Chowdary began the process of land acquisition to set up titanium dioxide plant on the banks of Krishna. The TDP leader is said to have made heavy investments on the lands in the region.
We have already reported that land prices in and around Vijayawda have doubled and it is hard to get an acre of land less than 10 crores.
Reports say that Sujana Chowdary, known as Chandrababu's Man Friday, is ready to buy 130 acres of the land for the proposed plant.
Ever since reports about the titanium dioxide plant came out, public fear pollution threat to drinking water sources in and around Vijayawada.
According to environmental experts, the titanium dioxide industry will produce a large amount of 'liquid effluents' that will get deposited in Krishna, affecting the drinking water sources of lakhs of people.
