Hyderabad: After Hyderabad's inclusion in the list of Smart Cities project along with 97 other cities across India, now Secunderabad Cantonment is going to get the Smart City status.The Central Security Wing under the Defence Ministry has decided to develop a few cantonment areas into Smart Cities on the lines of the Central government's Smart City project. Secunderabad cantonment is one among the five cantonments which have been selected from all over India. They have decided to implement a pilot project in this area which has 8 wards consisting of 4 lakh population.

The cantonment board will be responsible for deciding and implementing schemes for this project. It was decided to sanction Rs100 crore to develop Smart Cantonment among which Rs 20 crore is being released in the first phase.

The cantonment will be well equipped with 2,000 CCTV cameras installed all over the place to monitor the residential and military areas. Some resources have already been allocated for this and the remaining will be collected from the people in this area as donations. Cleanliness would be another aspect the Board has on priority list and solid waste management project will also be implemented. All departments in Cantonment Board will be digitized and WiFi will be set up to enable better connectivity.

Smart cities will have best of the roads, civic amenities, mass transportation facilities, clean and green environment, better connectivity to different parts of the country, security to the public, etc. The concept of smart city is to make the life easier for the people.
