Rohtang Bailey Bridge Collapses Due to Heavy Rains in Shimla

Shimla: A part of 8.8 kilometer Rohtang bailey bridge on Tuesday collapsed due to floods in Chandra river, Himachal Pradesh. The bridge was washed away due to heavy rains, however, no casualties were reported.

According to government officials, 76 meters of the bridge on 10 pillars were washed away by flood waters. Rains and flash floods created havoc in the hill states of Uttarakhand and Himachal causing roadblocks, landslides recently.

A truck driver who got stuck between the heavy current of river Chandra was safely rescued. Recently, a 44-year-old bridge in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh collapsed following heavy rains and flow of flood water.
