In Telangana Polls, Barrelakka Steals Thunder from Pawan Kalyan

 - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Karne Sirisha or Barrelakka (buffaloes sister) is a name that is making news these days. 26-year-old Sirisha is contesting the upcoming Telangana assembly elections as an independent candidate. A native of Marrikal village in Peddakothapally mandal in Nagarkurnool, Sirisha has entered the fray from Kollapur assembly segment and contesting the elections against Congress nominee Jupally Krishna Rao, BRS candidate B Harshavardhan Reddy and BJP’s Sudhakar Rao.

The girl from Nagarkurnool has become an overnight celebrity as she is taking on the KCR government over unemployment. Sirisha said she appeared for Group I and !! examinations and lost hope after the exams got cancelled.

The election commission has given the whistle as a poll symbol to her. She campaigns both online and offline. Criticisng the KCR government over joblessness, she posted a video with her four buffaloes on her YouTube channel and the vid soon got viral earning her the ‘Barrelakka’ nickname from the social media users. She is getting massive support from the unemployed youth in her constituency as well as from social media users.

On the other hand, we have Jana Sena Party (JSP) leader Pawan Kalyan who has been in politics for over 9 years and yet to make a mark among the people of the state. Declared as ‘unfit’ by the people of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan did not dare to contest the Telangana Assembly elections on his own. There may be organisational reasons behind the decision for pre-poll alliance. The actor-turned-politician hastily announced that his party will contest at least 32 seats in Telangana, however, after the tie-up with the BJP, his party got only 8 seats for the elections.

The Jana Sena leader started the election campaign barely a week before the Telangana elections and now complaining that he has no time for the hectic political activity. He seems to have left his party candidates to fend for themselves. Does that mean Pawan Kalyan has already accepted his party's defeat in the November 30 polls?

During his election campaign, Pawan Kalyan made superficial critical remarks against the ruling BRS government on issues like Dharani portal, question paper leaks etc. Some people say the Jana Sena leader has no knowledge about the political issues in Telangana while others opine that he’s good relations with the leadership of BRS and Congress parties.

First in Warangal and now in Kothagudem, the Jana Sena leader addressed the public meetings and urged the voters to elect the BJP government in the state. He did not even say a word about his party’s success in the elections. If you analyse the recent speeches of ‘part-time’ political leader Pawan Kalyan, a young woman Barrelakka has clearly won the hearts of people through her criticism of the current dispensation.
