Telangana HC Puts Brakes on Installation of NTR Statue in Khammam

Hyderabad: The soon-to-be-installed statue of TDP founder-president and former Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, NT Rama Rao in Khammam has run into trouble after the Telangana High Court stayed the process until further notices. 

Several writ petitions were filed against the installation of NTR statue at Lakaram Tank Bund in Khammam on May 28, marking the 100 birth anniversary of the doyen of Telugu cinema. The petitioners have been opposing the installation of the statue as it is portrayed in ‘Krishnavataram’. After hearing the matter, the High Court stopped the organizers from going ahead with the unveiling of the statue and also issued notices to the organizers including the Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.  

The project of installing the 40-feet tall statue at Lakaram was taken by the state minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar. Recently, the minister had invited the Nandamuri scion Jr NTR for unveiling the statue. The statue was built at a cost of Rs 3 crore and an artist from Nizamabad was engaged for the project.
