Telangana Colleges Bandh from October 13 Over Pending Fee Reimbursement Dues?

Private colleges in Telangana are threatening a statewide bandh starting October 13, unless the government pays all pending fee reimbursement dues by October 12. The warning comes after repeated government assurances failed to yield results.
The Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Institutions (FATHI) says that the state has already pledged ₹600 crore but has not delivered it. College managements claim that the total backlog now exceeds ₹10,000 crore, accumulating over several years.
Faculty salaries, maintenance costs and institutional operations are under severe strain. Several colleges say they are struggling to keep staff paid and facilities open, with many operations “on the verge of collapse.”
FATHI has called an emergency meeting to finalise its protest strategy. While the bandh is planned to begin from October 13, officials say that the decision will be confirmed after that meeting. College leaders assert they are prepared to shut down academic activities, halt exams and suspend administrative work until the dues are cleared.
The looming protest raises serious concerns about disruption of higher education in the state. Thousands of students across professional, degree, medical, pharmacy and other courses could see classes canceled, exams postponed and academic calendars thrown into disarray.
The government is caught in a bind. It earlier released a portion of the promised funds, which temporarily ended a previous strike. But those steps have been deemed insufficient by college authorities. With the deadline approaching, pressure is mounting on the state to act swiftly and prevent a full shutdown of private institutions.
For now, all eyes are on whether the government meets the October 12 demand. If it fails, Telangana will witness significant educational upheaval starting October 13.
