NEW DELHI: Just days before she was to appear before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in a money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi tested Covid positive on Wednesday. Meanwhile, her son Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi has written to the ED seeking more time from the agency to appear before it as he was currently abroad and requesting the next convenient date for an appearance.

The  Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday summoned Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her MP son Rahul Gandhi for questioning in a money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper. While Sonia Gandhi, was asked to depose before the ED on June 8, Rahul Gandhi was supposed to appear before it on June 2.

The case to probe alleged financial irregularities in the party-promoted Young Indian that owns the National Herald newspaper was registered recently and the agency wanted to record the statements of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Sonia Gandhi had been holding a series of meetings with leaders and activists in the last week. On Wednesday evening, she tested Covid-19 positive after exhibiting mild symptoms and isolated herself.
