November 18 School Holiday Due to Tamil Nadu Rains?
After a day of intense rainfall across Tamil Nadu on 17 November 2025, several districts are expected to continue school closures on 18 November as a precaution. The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across coastal and northern districts, leading authorities to monitor the situation closely.
On November 17, schools were officially shut in major districts, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram and surrounding regions. With rain intensity forecast to persist overnight and into Monday morning, educational institutions in several parts of the state are expected to remain closed for another day to ensure student safety.
Weather predictions indicate that districts such as Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Karaikal may receive 100–150 mm of rainfall, falling under the heavy to very heavy category. These regions are likely to see school closures on 18 November as waterlogging, difficult travel conditions and strong winds continue.
A wider group of districts, including Kanyakumari, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Karur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Villupuram, Ranipet, Thiruvannamalai, Puducherry, Kallakkurichi and Cuddalore, are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Schools across these districts are also expected to stay closed depending on local weather conditions and early-morning assessments by district authorities.
Parents and students are advised to keep an eye on announcements from the respective district collectors, as final decisions may be issued late tonight or early Tuesday morning. With widespread rainfall affecting both coastal and interior areas, safety remains the priority for the Tamil Nadu administration as it evaluates conditions across the state.
