Maharashtra Lockdown Extended: New Rules To Be Notified On June 1

The Maharashtra government has decided to extend the lockdown by 15 days after reviewing the Covid situation in the state. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that a new set of guidelines will be issued on June 1.

The state cabinet had decided to extend the restrictions on people's movement and businesses to further contain the spread of coronavirus.

No relaxation will be given in areas where the number of patients and positivity rate are still high and hospital bed availability is an issue, Tope said.

"In areas where the situation has improved, certain guidelines (easing the curbs) can be issued," he added.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had said that the lockdown restrictions will continue after June 1 and will be relaxed later in a phased manner depending on the positivity rate in the districts. He noted that the threat of black fungus infection is more in 10-15 districts.

Maharashtra, on Friday, recorded 20,740 new cases which have taken the tally to 5,692,920. As per the health ministry bulletin, 424 people succumbed to the viral disease in the last 24 hours and now Maharashtra’s death toll has risen to 93,198.
