Karnataka Ministers To Donate One Year Salary For Covid-19 Relief Work

With the number of COVID-19 cases on an upward curve in Karnataka, the ministers of the state have unanimously decided to contribute their one year’s salary for coronavirus-related work.

Revenue Minister R Ashoka said in Bengaluru, "We, the ministers in Karnataka, have decided to donate one year's salary for COVID relief work."
He asserted that 230 acres of land have been reserved for cremation purposes and the Deputy Commissioners have handed over land to the Tehsildars.

As Bengaluru crematoria grapples with lack of space, the government has planned three more at Mavallipura, Giddenahalli and Tavarekere on the city outskirts.

However, Giddenahalli and Tavarekere crematoriums can only cremate 70 bodies and have become operational while the Mavallipura crematorium will start soon and it has the capacity to burn 40 bodies.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the superintendents of police of all the districts have been directed to strictly impose the restrictions.
The state has decided to use 15,000 civil defence volunteers for monitoring, tracing, and home isolation of COVID patients. Bommai said that permission has been granted to use 8,500 home guards for COVID related jobs.

According to the Minister, approximately 300 jail inmates have tested positive for COVID-19, following which the sanitisation of jails is underway as well as plans are being made to separate COVID patients in jail.

The Karnataka state government said that directions have been issued to the Deputy Commissioners to set up COVID care centres on a priority basis.

The CM office released a statement that reads, "The Chief Minister also instructed to ensure judicious usage of oxygenated beds, ventilators and Remdesivir, which should be given only to the needy. DCs have been told to ensure timely oxygen supply to the hospitals."
