Karnataka CM Awaiting PM Modi's Nod For Full Lockdown

Karnataka, which is currently on a partial lockdown, is waiting for further instructions from the Centre on what restrictions should be imposed to stop COVID-19 from spreading in the state. Karnataka Cheif Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said that they are waiting for further guidelines and instruction from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a full-fledged lockdown.

Meanwhile, sources say that lockdown in the State could be extended beyond May 12 as the number of cases in the State are still increasing. On Wednesday, the State reported 50,000 plus cases. "If the number of cases won't fall below 20,000 for next three days then for sure the government will extend the lockdown period," the source told a leading English daily.

On Wednesday, Karnataka reported 50,112 infections and 346 deaths. This took the total caseload to nearly 17.5 lakhs and the fatalities to 16,884. Bengaluru Urban alone accounted for 23,106 infections and 161 deaths.
