Indian Railways Offers Travel Insurance for Upto Rs 10 Lakh, Deets Inside

 - Sakshi Post

The term travel insurance is often heard when you book a flight ticket. Not many people are aware that Indian Railways too offers travel insurance at less than 50 paise per passenger. However, only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for insurance cover through IRCTC website or mobile app.

If you are booking a train ticket via IRCTC website or mobile app and wish to buy the insurance cover, you need to select the ‘Travel Insurance’ option while booking the ticket. The premium will be automatically added to the ticket cost. You will receive policy information through a SMS and on the registered email IDs directly from the insurance companies and also a link will be provided to fill in the nomination details. The policy is available for all passengers traveling by train, including AC and non-AC classes.

IRCTC offers a travel insurance policy for passengers at a nominal premium of  Rs 0.35 (35 paise). Passengers who buy the insurance get compensated for any loss of valuables and luggage during their train journey. Not only that, the insurance policy provides a cover of up to Rs 10 lakh in case of death, permanent disability, or hospitalisation due to an accident during the journey.

The passengers can claim insurance within four months of being in a train accident. They can file a claim for insurance by visiting the office of the insurance company.
