Relief From Summer Heat: Heavy Rains Lash Hyderabad

 - Sakshi Post

HYDERABAD: In what is a great respite from the searing summer heat, the city of Hyderabad received a spell of thunderstorms since Sunday afternoon. After overcast conditions since morning, the skies opened up in the afternoon with many areas of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad receiving good amount of rains.

Thunderstorms coupled with gusty winds lashed several localities including LB Nagar, Dilshukhnagar, Hayatnagar, Koti, Lakdikapool, Khairathabad, Mehdipatnam, Banjara Hills, Secunderabad, Tarnaka, Nacharam, Hubsiguda. Residents of Koti and Abids were also in for a surprise as they experienced a hailstorm, which is a rare phenomenon in the state capital. Reports of heavy rains accompanied by strong wind were also received from Rangareddy district where Ibrahimpatnam and Yacharam were hit by a heavy downpour.

The sudden change in climate is being received as a heartening and welcome relief by the people of the twin cities. Hyderabad and several other parts of Telangana are receiving copious rains under the influence of a depression over Chhattisgarh and parts of Telangana. While the wet weather is giving relief to some, the deluge from the sudden downpours is giving nightmares to people living in the low-lying areas.

Disaster relief teams of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have been deployed at several low-lying areas to clear water-logging and also to remove fallen trees causing obstructions on the streets. The GHMC is on increased alert in view of the meteorological department officials forecasting more rainfall in the next two to three days. In all, about 2-3 cm rainfall has been recorded by late afternoon on Sunday.
