UP: 18 killed after speeding truck hits bus PM announces ex-gratia: In a horrific road accident at least 18 people were killed and 25 injured after speeding a truck hit a double-decker bus here which was parked to the side of the road in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The incident took place under Kotwali Ramsanehighat in Barababnki in Uttar Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs each from PMNRF for the family members of those who lost their lives in the accident.

As per reports the passengers who were labourers were on their way to Bihar from Punjab in the private sleeper bus. The axle of the bus broke down and it was parked on the road by the driver who was going to repair it in the morning. Many of the passengers were sitting outside the bus and were either sleeping or sitting out at the time of the incident, the police said.

Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident and started rescue operations. Despite the continuous rains the injured were rushed to the hospital and the police and district administration extricated some of the passengers stuck beneath the bus. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and directed officials to extend all possible help to the victims.
