MVA Calls for Statewide Bandh on August 24 Amidst Outrage Over Badlapur Minor Girl's Sexual Abuse

The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has announced a statewide Maharashtra Bandh on August 24 in response to the horrific sexual abuse of two minor girls in Badlapur, Thane district. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with angry parents and residents staging protests and demanding stringent action against the perpetrator.

Protests and Clashes

Protests erupted on August 20 at Badlapur station, with demonstrators blocking railway tracks and vandalizing a school building. The police intervened after nine hours, using a lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Clashes followed, resulting in injuries to 17 police officers and eight railway personnel, and the arrest of 72 people.

Internet Services Suspended and Schools Closed

In response to the unrest, internet services in Badlapur were suspended on August 21, and most schools in the area remained closed. Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain order as the situation gradually returns to normal.

MVA's Call for Bandh

MP and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut announced the MVA's decision to call for a Maharashtra Bandh on August 24, citing the people's agitation and the registration of FIRs against protesters. "The law and order situation in the state has deteriorated, and we demand action," Raut said.

The incident occurred on August 17, when a school attendant was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing two kindergarten students in the school's toilet. The accused remains in police custody, with his detention extended until August 26 by a local court.
