Khammam: Municipal Worker Falls Into Pipe and Dies While Cleaning Water Tank - Sakshi Post

KHAMMAM:  A municipal worker named  Chirra Sandeep (23) who had gone to clean a water tank slipped and fell into a pipeline and died on Tuesday.

The incident happened at Nayabazar College in Kalvaddu town where the water tank was located. Sandeep and two other workers were cleaning the water tank in the morning hours. Sandeep slipped and fell in the pipeline while cleaning the tank. The other two workers immediately informed their superiors.

The local police, fire department, and a rescue team of the Khammam municipality were called to help locate the municipal worker. They could not trace him to the starting point of the pipeline. A JCB excavator was deployed and they removed the mud covering the pipe at the bottom of the tank. After they broke open the pipe they could see his legs. They finally retrieved his body from the pipeline at 5: 30 pm in the evening.

Tension prevailed in Kalvaddu in the town after the victim’s parents and family members staged a protest on the road alleging that their son died due to the negligence of the Municipal staff for not taking precautionary measures. The stopped their protests after the Police and the KMC staff promised to give Rs 6 lakhs as compensation, a housing plot, and an outsourcing job in the KMC to one of the members of his family.
