Chinese spy pigeons create flutter in Prakasam district - Sakshi Post

VIJAYAWADA: Two pigeons that landed on the apartments at Cheemakurthy in Prakasam district created a flutter among the locals about the pigeons being “Chinese Spy Pigeons” because they had yellow tags on their feet.

As per reports, one pigeon landed on Mannam Nagraj's apartment in Cheemakurthy and another one e on Linga Reddy's apartment in Pernamitta on Wednesday. They had tags with alphanumeric codes like AIR‌ and the numbers 2207 and 2019 on them. Soon the word of Chinese spy pigeons in Prakasam spread like wildfire in Prakasam and the State, thanks to the media channels reporting the news.  Local police and the revenue authorities reached the place and conducted an investigation.

It turned out to be that the pigeons which strayed into Prakasam were actually part of the racing competition in Tamil Nadu and had landed in Chimakurthy after losing their way. The pigeons belonged to the All India Racing Pigeon Society of Chennai informed the Chimakurthy SI V Anjaneyulu. He said the society would conduct racing competitions with pigeons and assign them with such alphanumeric numbers.

The police also clarified that there were no Chinese characters on the tag tied to the leg of the pigeons. Neither did they find any electronic surveillance device attached to the birds. Pigeon racing is rampant in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu in winter and it was common for them to stray into other States like Andhra Pradesh, Odisha.
