'Rs 2-Cr Land Dispute Led To Vijayawada Student Gang War'

VIJAYAWADA: One person died and five were injured in the brawl that broke between two rival groups in Vijayawada on Sunday due to land dispute worth Rs two crores. The deceased has been identified as  Thota Sandeep.

Vijayawada police commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao has deployed six teams to identify the persons involved in the clash.  

Trouble broke out after two groups of students in Patamata locality of Vijayawada began pelting stones at each other. Soon, it took a turn for the worse as members of the two groups brandished knives and started chasing rival members and attacking them at will. Even as the scene of fight resembled a battleground, residents of the locality suffered bouts of panic and shut themselves inside their houses as they feared for their lives.

According to police, the fight was between two groups which were led by  Thota Sandeep and Manikanta respectively. At least 30 persons have been identified by police who will be detained.

A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code will be registered against the accused, police said.

Police investigation revealed that both groups were even prepared to murder each other.

Visuals of the frightening student gang war in the thriving business hub went viral on social media and sent waves of shock and panic in the city. Scores of students from both groups were reported to have sustained grievous injuries in the fight.
