Rewind 2023: Under YS Jagan Govt, Welfare and Development Go Hand-in-Hand

Amaravati: The year began with enhancement of social security pension and came to a close taking it to the promised level and in between the scales of welfare and development were balanced in equal measure as the State witnessed hectic activity with mass contact programmes, sports and cultural events among others.

Administration was at the doorstep of people while priority was given to medical, health and industrial sectors besides bringing reforms in  education and agriculture. The year will also have a special page in the history of the State as the youth was introduced to Aadudam Andhra, a sports event across the State.

Jagananna Suraksha and Jagananna Arogya Suraksha have supplemented the response platforms Jaganannaku Chebudam and Spandana and helped the people solve their problems quickly at their doorstep.

That apart, programmes like Why AP Needs Jagan, Jagananne Maa Bhavishyath and the mass based Samajika Sadhikara Bus Yatras have sent out messages on the necessity of continuing the present administration to receive the benefits of welfare schemes. 

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited New Delhi twice and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other central leaders seeking development funds and resolving the pending post bifurcation issues.

The Chief Minister also addressed the NITI Aayog Governing Council session in the national capital and sought development funds. Besides giving away the Dr. YSR Lifetime Achievement and Dr. YSR Achievement Awards-2023 to 27 individuals and institutions along with the Governor, the Chief Minister also made the year very memorable for journalists by deciding to allot them house sites.  

On the cultural front, the State also hosted the 22nd edition of Nandi Natakotsavam that breathed  life into theatre arts inspiring  artistes.  The year also saw the Government including the Boya (Valmiki) community in the list of the Scheduled Tribes, setting up Medical Services Recruitment Board, introducing e-stamping services for registrations and establishing 20 Tourist Police Stations across the State besides launching the INDGAP Verification Programme for exporting agricultural produce to European and Western countries.

The Chief Minister laid foundation stone for Tribal University, the Rs.4,362 crore Mulapeta Port,  the Rs. 4592 crore Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport, Rs.21,844 crore Vizag Tech Park and dedicating the Tunnel 2 of the Owk project to people, and also launched the Rs. 5,156 crore Machilipatnam Port works. 

The Government took the school and college education to the next level by entering into MoUs with US organisations ETS (Educational Testing Service) and IB (International Baccalaureate) for introducing modern subjects like AI and latest examination methods in Government schools. By preparing ground for rapid industrialization of the State with successful conduct of the Visakhapatnam GIS, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone and inaugurated a slew of industrial, food processing, pharma and green energy projects across the three regions of the State.

Government also de-notified the ‘dotted lands’ from the prohibited list benefiting 97,471 farmer families and bestowing full ownership rights on 2,06,171 acres worth Rs. 20,000 crore besides providing 7,92,238 title deeds to farmers in 2,000 villages under the first phase of YSR Jagananna Saswatha Bhu Hakku- Bhu Raksha.

The State won five national awards for paperless medical services (digital health services), innovation award for Dr YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme, Gold Award from SKOCH for its initiative of providing loans in large amounts to Self Help Groups (SHGs), SPARK Award for efficient implementation of urban poverty alleviation programmes and higher productivity award from the Union Agriculture Ministry for Kothapalli Village Panchayat in YSR District.

Despite hectic schedules, the Chief Minister also visited Goddess Kanaka Durga temple at Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada and Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirumala and presented silk robes to the deities as part of the temple festivities.

He also celebrated the festivals Sankranti, Ugadi and Christmas with traditional fervour and attended the Ashtottara Satha Kundatmaka (108) Chandi, Rudra, Raja Syamala, Sudarshana Sahitha Sri Lakshmi Maha Yagnam at Vijayawada

Some of the prominent foreign dignitaries who called on the Chief Minister included United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to India Abdul Nasser Al Shaali, UNICEF Chief for AP, Telangana and Karnataka Dr. Zelalem B. Taffesse, motivational Speaker Nick Vujicic, World Bank’s India Director Auguste Tano Kouame, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in India Michaela Küchler, Consul General of Republic of Korea (RoK) in Chennai Kim Chang Nyun and CEO of the German-based Pepper Motion Andreas Hager.

Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, AVSM , VSM, NABARD  Chairman Shaji KV, lyricist Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry's family members, Kaginele Kanaka Dasa Guru Peetam Seer Niranjanandapuri Maha Swami (Karnataka), spiritual speaker Chaganti Koteswara Rao, Chairman of Mahindra Holidays and MD & CEO Of Tech Mahindra, CP Gurnanialso called on the Chief Minister during the year, which concluded on a note of equal prominence to twin factors of welfare and development.
