High-Speed Rail Corridor to Reduce Travel Time Between Hyd and Visakha to 4.5 Hours

 - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Ongoing works on a high-speed rail link along the national highway from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam via Vijayawada are progressing well. Following the central government's instructions, the Railways department is conducting a Preliminary Engineering Cum Traffic Survey. SM Consultancy was tasked with this responsibility in May last year. The initial survey is expected to be finished by the end of March, and a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared based on the survey findings

The traffic has significantly increased in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh since the state's bifurcation, with lakhs of people travelling for work between the states. The high-speed rail corridor will not only connect the capitals of the two Telugu states but also facilitate travel, trade, and the export and import of goods.

For decades, people have demanded for a railway line along the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway. Former MPs from the undivided Nalgonda had repeatedly raised this issue with the Centre. The Central government recognized the needs of both states only after the state's bifurcation and approved the establishment of a rail corridor. This decision is expected to fulfill the long-standing aspirations of the people of Ranga Reddy, the combined Nalgonda, and the areas along the national highway in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh

After the completion of the high-speed rail corridor work, commuters will experience a significant decrease in their travel time. The 900-kilometre journey from Shamshabad International Airport to Visakhapatnam will be reduced to just four and a half hours. The high-speed train will operate at a speed of 220 kilometres per hour, potentially allowing passengers to return on the same day.
