Dr Sameer Sharma Takes Charge As AP Chief Secretary

AMARAVATI: Dr Sameer Sharma, on Thursday took charge as the new Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

He succeeded 1987-batch officer Aditya Nath Das, who retired from service and has Das has been appointed as the state government's Chief Advisor in New Delhi, with the rank of a Cabinet Minister.

A 1985 batch IAS officer Sameer Sharma is due to retire from service on November 30 this year.He returned to the state cadre in July this year after a Central deputation.

Sameer Sharma did his Masters and doctorate in Community Planning in the United States of America.

Sameer Sharma has authored many books like Smart Cities Unbundled, A Textbook on Urban Planning and Geography and Hourglass Management Paradigm.

An expert in urban development affairs, Sharma had earlier served as Director of National Smart Cities Mission.

He served as the Commissioner of three major municipal corporations of Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Greater Hyderabad in the erstwhile united AP.

He also served as Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Tourism Development Corporation and contributed to the increase of its revenues.

He worked as a consultant for UN Habitat in Cambodia and the International Federation of Red Cross Societies.

Sharma received awards from the President of India and the Prime Minister for his path-breaking initiatives in the promotion of community organisations in slums and reforms in governance under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

He had earlier served as the Director General of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs before returning to the State.

Dr Sameer Sharma thanked Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for giving him the opportunity and said that he would work for the progress of the state and implementation of Navratnalu with the cooperation of all. Employees of the AP Secretariat conducted a farewell function to the  Aditya Nath Das and a welcome meeting for Dr. Sameer Sharma on Thursday at the Secretariat First Block CM Conference Hall under the auspices of the General Administration Department.

The newly appointed Chief Secretary to the Government, Dr Sameer Sharma, accompanied by Adityanath Das has paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the camp office here on Friday. Dr. Sameer Sharma has taken the charge as the new Chief Secretary on Thursday, while Adityanath Das will be taking charge as the Chief Advisor to the Government later in the day.
