NEW DELHI: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is on a two-day visit to the national capital, called on Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari and discussed issues related to the state highways and their development. The meeting lasted for more than an hour where the YS Jagan thanked the Union Minister for sanctioning several national highways in the State.

They also discussed details about the DPR  preparation over the National Highway from Visakhapatnam Port to Bhogapuram via Rishikonda and Bhimili beach road. The road will be very useful for Visakhapatnam and will shorten the distance from Visakhapatnam port to Odisha and Chhattisgarh states for transport vehicles, he explained. The CM said that this road will be close to the beach corridor projects along the coast. YS Jagan explained that the construction of this road will greatly contribute to the development of tourism in the region, and will also make it easy to reach Bhogapuram International Airport.

 In view of the increasing traffic congestion in the city of Visakhapatnam and keeping the future needs in mind, the Chief Minister requested for a 6-lane road here.

He also sought for expediting the appeal made earlier with regard to the Vijayawada East Bypass road. YS Jagan informed that the land acquisition process related to this project will be completed at the earliest in coordination with the concerned departments. As part of the effort to reduce the cost of the project, the State Goods and Service Tax, royalty exemption would be given, he stated and appealed to Nitin Gadkari to take up the project at the earliest.

As part of the Kathipudi- Ongole Corridor, YS Jagan sought the extension of the NH-216 to be extended as a 4-lane road in Bapatla. The Chief Minister sought for widening the existing road at Bapatla and make it a four-lane road, owing to traffic congestion due to a large number of educational institutions, tourists, and vehicular movements to the airbase there.
