TikTok Back At No.1 Spot on App Store

TikTok App - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Days after TikTok became available on app stores in India again, the app has claimed the number 1 spot in both iOS and Android. The Chinese short video-sharing app said that it has reclaimed the top spot as the number one top free app on iOS and as the top free app in the social category on the Google Play Store.

The reason behind this is the latest brand campaign which goes as #ReturnofTikTok. The hashtag #ReturnofTikTok is already trending with over 504 million views on the app. Not just that, it has also started offering users Rs 1 lakh cash reward everyday as part of their promotional strategy.

On April 3, expressing concern over the "pornographic and inappropriate" contents of the TikTok, Madras High Court's Madurai Bench had directed the Centre to ban the app owned by Beijing based ByteDance Technology Co. The ban order came after the court noted that children were being exposed to pornographic and inappropriate material.

The Madurai bench later lifted the ban on April 24 on the basis of select regulatory conditions. The advocate who represented the app told court that more than a million videos have been deleted and special teams have been constituted for closely monitoring content on the app.

Meanwhile, TikTok remained unavailable for download on both Google Play Store and Apple's App Store until April 30 - six days after the Madras High Court's Madurai Bench lifted its ban.

The rise of Chinese short video-sharing app TikTok in India has been so spectacular over the past year that it is now nearly impossible for any social media user to not have come across its content.

These user-created videos that often contain memes, lip-syncing songs and sometimes sleazy posts regularly find ways to other popular social media sites including Facebook, WhatsApp and ShareChat. These are the platforms where most adult social media users are now getting introduced to TikTok.
