Shocking! 128 Crore Electricity Bill?

Hapur: How would you react if you get Rs 128 crore as your electricity bill. Shocked! But that has been the case. A man from Uttar Pradesh got his electricity bill with that whopping amount. He alleged that he has gone to the electricity office multiple times to rectify the sum but to no avail.

The man hails from Chamri village in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur and also alleged that the electricity department cut off the supply as he failed to pay the bill.

Reports suggest that the bill had printed Rs 128,45,95,444 for a home connection of 2 kilowatt.

"No one is listening to our pleas, how will we submit that amount? When we went to complain about it, we were told that they won't resume our electricity connection unless we pay the bill," the man told a leading news agency.

"I am running from pillar to post but no one is listening. It seems that the electricity department wants me to pay the bill of whole Hapur," he added.

He also said that he gets an average monthly bill of only about Rs 700 or Rs 800.

Meanwhile, an official said that it was a clerical error and called it 'no big deal'.

"This must be a technical fault. If they provide us with the bill we will issue them an updated one after rectifying the technical fault in the system. This is no big deal. Technical faults do take place," an electricity engineer was quoted saying by the news agency.
