Aaj Tak’s Anjana Om Kashyap Gets Brickbats For Her Live Reporting From Muzaffarpur Hospital ICU

Hyderabad: With over 150 children dead and more than 400 with acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) admitted to hospital in Bihar, Aaj Tak news anchor Anjana Om Kashyap who reported from the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur faced immense backlash on Tuesday for heckling doctors instead of questioning ministers.
Many on social media questioned how she could enter the ICU in the first place. Many also called her out for interfering in work while the doctors and nurses were on duty.
#AnjanaOmKashyap was the top trend on Twitter yesterday while on Wednesday morning #shameonanjanaomkashyap was trending with almost 5,000 people tweeting with the hashtag.
Most users pointed out that she was more driven by TRPs instead of posing real questions to the politicians. Some pointed out that the questions she asked to the doctors and the nurses should actually have been posed to the ministers.
Have a look at what people were talking about:
Who let this lady enter the ICU of a hospital with camera and mic? — Ravi Nair (@t_d_h_nair) June 19, 2019 - @anjanaomkashyap hv some shame. u're behaving like a stulid fool.Whr is the doctor supposed to keep the kids when there are no facilities? You're scolding a doctor on duty! You should be reprimanded by ur channel head @aroonpurie for unethical journalism.pic.twitter.com/kNPnffhwnV — Zainab Sikander (@zainabsikander) June 19, 2019 This is journalism of courage by @aajtak. Heckling the nurses and doctors and creating nuisance inside a hospital award. If they show even one hundredth of this aggression in questioning politicians, then it'd be quite an achievement. pic.twitter.com/BSEyiwNnTZ — Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) June 18, 2019 Dear lawyer friends, Are there no legal provisions under which action can be taken against this journalist for endangering so many fragile lives? Patients in ICUs are fragile. This video is making my blood boil. #AnjanaOmKashyap #BiharChildDeaths https://t.co/XCO9TLrxEo — Anna MM Vetticad (@annavetticad) June 19, 2019 This fits your journalism style #AnjanaOmKashyap pic.twitter.com/xuxmPxEM5Q — Dhanu (@Dhanunjayaredy) June 19, 2019 Disgusting behavior by #AnjanaOmKashyap. Instead of doctors doing their job, she wants them to chit chat with her on cam. Created a ruckus in the hospital. And the audacity - won't question the govt that's at fault for bad health facilities, but goes around screaming at doctors! — Hasiba ? (@HasibaAmin) June 19, 2019 How is #AnjanaOmKashyap even allowed to barge inside the ICU, create ruckus, admonish doctors who are attending to patients and broadcast the same? pic.twitter.com/fIxyORPsyJ — Ruchira Chaturvedi (@RuchiraC) June 19, 2019 Journalism in India. #AnjanaOmKashyap barges into the ICU, starts accusing the Doctor, judges him, demoralize him. Who gave her permission to enter ICU? Who gave her permission to judge? Look at that young doctor's face. Tired,,, overworked, attending to everyone. #Muzaffarpur pic.twitter.com/S3QPBsey0a — Amarario (@synapse_doc) June 18, 2019 Journalist Anjana Om Kashyap is criticised by many for her live report on encephalitis from inside the hospital ICU in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur. https://t.co/KCQnJV6XSF — Twitter Moments India (@MomentsIndia) June 19, 2019
She should have barged in to the concerned minister or CM’s office to question them about the poor condition of public health facilities.
This is not journalism, but publicity stunt
