7 devotees Killed In Trichy Karuppasamy Temple Stampede

Trichy: Seven devotees, including four women were killed and over 10 injured in a stampede at Karuppasamy temple in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. All the injured have been admitted to Thuraiyur governmnet hospital.

The incident happened in Muthayampalayam village when thousands of devotees came to the temple on the Hindu auspicious day of 'Chitra Poornima'. When devotes attempted to receive rupee coins - called 'Padi Kasu' from the temple priest, the stampede took place.

The Padi Kasu ritual involve that the temple priest distribute rupee coins to the devotees. It is believed that the coins could bring home wealth and prosperity.

Probe is underway.
