Ambur Kid Fights For Toilets, Turns Swachh Bharat Ambassador

A 7-year-old girl went to the police to complain about her father who failed to keep his promise of building a toilet at their house. After the incident, Ambur municipality made her the brand ambassador for the Swachh Bharat Scheme.

Hanifa Zaara studying in second grade went to the All Women’s Police Station in Ambur, along with her mother in Vellore district on Monday to register a complaint against her father Ihsanullah.

The girl claimed that her father had assured to build a toilet at her house if she topped her class in LKG. She said that despite her getting the first rank for two years since the promise her father kept dodging the issue and a fed up Hanifa went to the police to get him arrested or at least get a written assurance from him in this regard .

Hanifa Zaara chose police over her school teacher as she was embarrassed to tell the latter at school. Her mother was reluctant in the beginning but had to give in to her daughter’s complaint eventually. She was sure the police would take steps to get this done.

As news about this spread, the Ambur Municipality Commissioner S Parthasarathy announced Hanifa Zaara as their brand ambassador for the Swachh Bharat mission initiated by the central government. The local body has even taken up the construction of a toilet at her house, under the scheme of the Union government. He added that a certificate of honour in this regard will be presented to her at a function organised in her school.

Swachh Bharat Mission is a cleanliness drive initiated by the Union Government to eradicate open defecation and provide safe sanitation facilities across the country. Under this scheme, the government gives financial assistance to build toilets, for people in need.
