Minor Girl Ends Life After Father Rapes Her 

Close on the heels of Kathua and Unnao rape, another rape case has surfaced in Bihar’s West Champaran district. The teenage girl (13), who was allegedly sexually exploited by her father, ended her life on Thursday by hanging herself at her home. Following this, the Majhaulia police station apprehend the man for allegedly raping his daughter.

"The deceased’s mother is in the process of lodging an FIR. Initial investigations revealed certain villagers had seen the man in an inappropriate condition with his daughter. We shall wait for the postmortem report,” the village sarpanch husband said.

Incidentally, the girl ran away from her home on Wednesday, but was brought back by the villagers who convinced her to go home. However, the next day she ended her life. West Champaran SP Jayant Kant said that they are probing the matter.

Meanhwhile, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed 12 media organisations to pay Rs 10 lakh each as compensation for disclosing the identity of an eight-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district.

Advocates representing the media houses told a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar that the mistake was due to ignorance of law and misconception that they could name the victim as she was dead. As the media houses apologized, the court asked them to deposit the compensation amount with the Registrar General of the High Court within a week and directed that the money be transferred to Jammu and Kashmir to be used for the victim's compensation scheme.
