Man Carrying Rs 22 Lakh Worth Saudi Riyals Held at RGI Airport

The accused  stated that the currency was obtained from unauthorized dealers and does not belong to him and he was carrying the currency at the behest of someone for delivery in Dubai

Hyderabad: A passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here was held after Saudi riyals, worth Rs 22 lakh, were seized from his possession which he was trying to export illegally, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence said.

On examination of accused check-in baggage, foreign currency in the form of 1.25 lakh Saudi Riyals was found

Based on specific intelligence, officers of DRI (Hyderabad Zonal unit), intercepted the passenger at the airport, who after having cleared immigration and security checks was to board a flight to Dubai on Tuesday night, a release from DRI said.

On examination of his check-in baggage, foreign currency in the form of 1.25 lakh Saudi Riyals was found, it said. During interrogation the man stated that the currency was obtained from unauthorized dealers and does not belong to him and he was carrying the currency at the behest of someone for delivery in Dubai.

The accused has been booked under the Customs Act, 1962 and FEMA, 1999. Further investigation in the case is on.
