LPG Cylinder Price Unaffected In Telugu States After GST

Hyderabad: As the Telangana and AP governments had already imposed VAT on various goods in the state, the newly imposed GST does not have any impact on some of the goods and services. The price of the domestic LPG cylinders in both the Telugu states remained same even after the GST.
The price of the LPG has increased by 5 percent post GST, but it did not show any impact as the states already had 5 percent VAT on the LPG cylinders.
However, in states where there was no VAT earlier, GST has led to an increase of up to Rs32 per LPG cylinder. At present, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Hyderabad is Rs613.50. Of this, Rs482 has to be borne by the consumers and Rs131 is the subsidy component, which is credited in the bank accounts of consumers.
As there was no VAT in Delhi, the cylinder price increased from Rs446.65 to Rs477.46 after GST. In Mumbai, where 3 per cent VAT was imposed previously, the price has gone up by Rs14.28 to Rs491.25 per cylinder.
The states which had no sales tax before now have to pay 5 percent tax on the domestic LPG cylinders.
