Kurnool: Fearing defeat in the Nandyal by-poll, the TDP leadership has enrolled bogus voters in large numbers ahead of the election, sources said.

According to reports, the TDP submitted more than 10,000 applications to the Election Commission seeking inclusion of new names in the voters list. Most of the proposed names are said to be fake and are aimed at altering the electoral outcome.

In all other Assembly constituencies in Kurnool district, the TDP has submitted only 3,000 to 4,000 new voter applications, but in Nandyal, the numbers are as high as 10,562. The ruling party leaders are also mounting pressure on the authorities to include bogus voters in the voters list.

The TDP leaders worried the party will lose face if the party candidate Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy is defeated.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress party delegation on Monday met Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal and urged him to delete the bogus votes included in the voters list in Nandyal Assembly constituency where bye elections are scheduled in August.

The YSR Congress leaders also submitted the evidences to show the existence of bogus votes. The leaders brought to the notice of the commission the fact that the ruling TDP leaders are mounting pressure on local authorities to include the bogus voters in the list.

The leaders requested Bhanwarlal to make fool-proof arrangements to conduct the elections in a fair manner.
