Is DS now confidant of Sonia Gandhi on Telangana?

In the wake of speculations over special package for Telangana, interesting developments are taking place in the national capital.

D Srinivas, former PCC president’s meeting with AICC president Sonia Gandhi very frequently in the last two weeks is drawing the attention of the Congress leaders from both Seemandhra and Telangana. He reportedly had an opportunity to meet Sonia four times in the last two weeks. Of course, on Saturday too, DS called on Sonia and held discussions for more than half-an-hour with her reportedly over an amicable solution on Telangana. 

Though it is not exactly known what conspired between them, the political analysts observe that the Congress high command is contemplating to find out a solution to the decade-old ticklish issue of Telangana. DS reportedly gave an indication to T Congress leaders to hold a meeting on the tip from Sonia. If it is the case, DS is going to play a vital role in the formation of Telangana. 

The meeting of the Congress leaders from Telangana held at the Exhibition grounds recently is any indication for signals from the party high command. Except one or two, all the top Congress leaders made their presence felt at the meeting within a short notice.

The meeting made a resolution that a team would be formed to represent their demand to Sonia Gandhi. It also decided to hold a massive public meeting at Nizam College grounds on June 30. Minister for Panchayat Raj K Jana Reddy, who spoke to media persons after the meeting, said that fresh demand for Telangana state would be taken forward to convince the party high command. 

What exactly in the Sonia’s mind on Telangana is a focal point now in the Congress circles. Appointing Digvijay Singh as in-charge of AP affairs is, however, diluting the spirits of Telangana leaders. He has the capabilities of the convincing the leaders of both Seemandhra and Telangana.

Seemandhra leaders, who decided to meet to discuss on the happenings in New Delhi, however differed and put off the meeting in view of the tragedy of flash floods in Uttarakhand.They are clueless over the high command’s actions. They, however, sensed some action on Telangana with DS meeting the top brass of the party staying in Delhi. With an easy access with Sonia Gandhi, D Srinivas may have a great elevation if the decision by Congress in favour of State division. Even if it is a mere package for Telangana, DS may act as head of the committee.
