Harassed By Constable, Woman Sets Herself Ablaze

Hyderabad: A 19-year-old dalit girl committed suicide by setting herself on fire after being forced by a constable to love him for four years in Yacharam on Monday.

The victim Mandala Shyamala, a native of Dharmannagudem village, Yacharam mandal in Ranga Reddy district had completed her graduation and was living with her parents. The accused Soma Narsimha of same area is working as an Armed Reserve constable in Amberpet. He had been harassing her for the past four years forcing her to love him. As the constable was already married and has two children, Shymala's parents warned him to stay away from her. But the constable continued to harass her.

On Monday at around 11.45am she got a call from Narsimha and immediately after the call was ended, she ran into a room and set herself on fire. Her mother raised an alarm when she noticed the fumes coming out of the room. Locals came to her rescue and doused the fire. She was admitted in a hospital and succumbed to severe burns while undergoing treatment.

Police registered a case and are trying to nab the accused who was absconding.
