Girl Critical After Acid Attack In Warangal

Warangal: A 24-year-old girl was attacked by an auto driver who poured acid on her face and person on Wednesday. The girl, identified as Madhavi of Mattewada in the city, sustained more than 70 percent burn injuries and her face got completely burnt.

On hearing her cries after the acid attack at Ainavolu in Garimillapally mandal near here, passersby came to her rescue and shifted her to MGM hospital where she is undergoing treatment in the emergency ward.

Efforts are on to nab the assailant and an investigation is on, police said.

The attacker was identified as Chandu, an auto driver who had been harassing the girl for several months now and he reportedly threatened her to kill her a week ago if she did not accept his proposal. He carried acid in a liquor bottle and threw it on her face.

It may be recalled here that two girls - Praneeta and Swapnika - of KITS Engineering College here were attacked in a similar way killing one of them on 10 December 2008. The attackers, three students of the same college, were shot dead by the police within 24 hours after the incident.
