Kannada actor Rebel star Ambareesh dead: Kannada actor Ambareesh breathed his last after suffering respiratory problems, it is learnt. According to latest reports coming in, the senior actor was rushed to Vikram hospital this evening by the family after he complained of breathing difficulties. But it is learned that he died on his way to the hospital.

Ambareesh was a seasoned actor who had worked with almost every top actor in the industry. He was also known as the person with a heart of gold. Ambareesh had been in politics for quite sometime now.

The death of the veteran actor has left a void in the Kannada film industry. The news of his demise has sent shock waves across he industry. Celebrities and politicians alike are thronging the hospital to pay their last respects. He held the title Rebel star and Mandyadha Gandu (the man of Mandya in karnataka). He is survived by his actress wife Sumalatha and son Abhishek Gowda.

Several leaders from the political fraternity including Karnataka chief minister HD Kumara Swamy paid their last respects to the departed soul at the hospital. With fans crowding up at the hospital upon hearing the news of death, the police has beefed up security arrangement in the vicinity and cardoned off the area. Police have also put up barricades to prevent any untoward situation.

Ambareesh was born as Aamarnath in Doddarasikere in Mandya district on May 29, 1952. After completing his graduation in Mysore he married Sumalatha in the year 1991. Ever since he entered films, the actor did not look back because this highly talented actor became a most sought after artiste in the industry to play not just leads but also villain.

The actor maintained a great rapport with every actor in the industry and was close to all the big politicians and movie stars. He was the grandson of famous violin artiste Pitilu Chowdaiah.

It is learnt that Ambi, as he was fondly called in the industry, suffered a heart attack. He was 66. It is worth mentioning here that Ambareesh had suffered a serious ailment way back in 2015 when he was taken in an air ambulance to Singapore. His recovery was being dubbed as a miracle. The actor had been battling kidney and lung issues for sometime now.

Upon hearing the news of Ambi’s death, Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth wrote on his Twitter handle: A wonderful human being...my best friend..i have lost you today and will miss you. ..Rest in Peace #ambrish

It is learned that the actor was shifted to the hospital at around 5pm after Ambareesh collapsed at his house. However, doctors are believed to have declared him dead at around 10.50pm.

The Kannada Rebel star's career spanned four decades and the actor had experimented all kinds of roles.

The Congress MLA from Mandya served as a union minister under the UPA government led by PM Dr Manmohan Singh. He was also the minister of state in I&B between 2006 and 2008. Dharwad university had conferred honorary doctorate on Ambareesh. He won National award for playing villain in his debut Nagarahavu which also starred late actor Sahasasimha Vishnuvardhan in the lead role. Incidentally Nagarahavu became the first Kannada film to have the longest run in theatres. The film ran for over 100 days. Ambareesh was known for his roles in Chakravyuha, Hrudaya Haadithu, Masanada Hoovu, Antha and Olavina Udugore. The actor had some 200 films to his credit.
