Drunkard Burns Pregnant Wife, Daughter To Death

Hyderabad: A 30-year-old man allegedly killed his six-month-old pregnant wife and their six-year-old daughter by setting them on fire in Bibinagar on Tuesday.

The accused Shankar Naik married to Saritha in 2008 and was residing at Raavi Pahad in Bibinagar. The couple had two daughters Sridevi(6) and Srinidhya(4). After the birth of their first daughter, Shankar addicted to alcohol and would harass his wife demanding a son. When Saritha gave birth to another girl, the accused turned even wilder and beat her regularly.

Fed up with the husband's torture, Saritha complained to her in-laws several times but when the accused father tried to warn him, Naik beaten him up severely and told his father not to involve in the issue. On Monday, Shankar came home after consuming alcohol and picked up a quarrel with his wife. All the family was slept after some time. Saritha and Sridevi slept in one bed, and Shankar and Srinidhya slept in the other. Around 2am, Shankar poured kerosene on his wife and daughter and set them on fire.

Hearing the screams, neighbors and in-laws rushed to the couple’s home and found Saritha and Sridevi engulfed in flames. Both were succumbed to severe burn injuries.

The police registered a case and launched a manhunt as the accused fled the spot after the incident.
