District Magistrate Thrashes Home Guards For Failing To Protect His Sandalwood Trees

Bahraich: The home guards association is up in arms against a district magistrate in Bahraich after a platoon commander and four home guards were thrashed by the DM for failing to protect his sandalwood trees.

Platoon Commander Harishchandra Sharma and home guards Darbarilal, Shiv Kumar Tiwari, Mohammad Kamaruddin and Dharamraj were guarding Singh's residence on Tuesday night when it came to light that the two sandalwood trees had been chopped off.

This enraged the district magistrate who flew into a rage, grabbed commander Sharma’s stick and began to beat him and the home guards. All five of them were later suspended.

Salikram Varma the SP of Bahraich said the DM had only suspended them and they were trying to register a false case on the DM to try and avoid an inquiry.

The victims were unable to register a FIR so far.

Meanwhile Gajraj Pathak, the head of the homeguards’ association, has threatened to launch a state-wide agitation against DM Abhay Singh.
