Chittoor Coolie Beats And Rapes Comatose Wife

Chittoor: A horrific incident of assault and rape of a Dalit woman came to light in Chittoor district on Monday evening.

According to Chittoor Police, Padma was married to Nanda (37), a labourer and they were living in the Iruvaram Dalitwada along with their two teenage daughters.

Recently, when their daughter fell sick Padma took her for treatment to the Chittoor Government Hospital. As the girl was seriously ill, she was advised to admit her and Padma stayed back in the hospital along with her other daughter as well.

Nanda a habitual alcoholic had come to the hospital on Sunday night in an inebriated condition and forced her to have intercourse with him. Aghast at his request Padma reprimanded him for asking her to have sex, that too in the hospital premises when his daughter was sick.

Angered at her refusal, he created a ruckus in the hospital and the security had to send him away from there. At around 11.00 pm in the night ,Nanda came back and took her to the terrace of the Children's ward in the pretext of talking to her. He again tried to force himself on her and she refused. Losing his senses, Nanda beat her mercilessly to the point she became unconscious. After raping Padma he attempted to murder her by strangling her with her sari and left her there.

Padma's second daughter who went searching for her found her mother naked, bleeding profusely and in an unconscious state in the morning hours. She called her relatives who immediately took Padma to the ICU.The doctors had informed her relatives that she had gone into coma. They said that since she received severe injuries to her internal organs they would only be able to tell if she would survive only after 24 hours.

Chittoor Police arrested Nanda in the Hospital, but Padma's relatives blocked their vehicle demanding that he should be handed over to them. This led to mild tension in the hospital, but was cleared only after the police informed them that a case of attempt- to-murder would be registered against Nanda.
