Depressed Over Grandpa’s Death, Rekurthy College Student Ends Life

Karimnagar: A student pursuing Intermediate second-year MPC in Alphores College allegedly attempted suicide by setting herself on fire after dousing herself with kerosene.

The incident took place in the college at Rekurthy in Kothapalli mandal of Karimnagar district.

The student, identified as Ms D Ruchitha was rushed to the Government Hospital in Karimnagar. However, she succumbed to her injuries on Friday night.

According to the details, Ruchitha, a native of Naspur, Nagarjuna colony in Mancherial district, recently went home to attend her grandfather's funeral but was found to be depressed after her return to the college.

On the day of the incident, she reportedly excused herself from class complaining of a stomach ache.

It is learnt that she attempted suicide in the bathroom of the college hostel.

Allegations have surfaced against the college management that Ruchitha who suffered severe burns was secretly shifted to the Government Hospital. Also, rumours were doing the rounds that Ruchita got burnt in the fire accident that took place in the college recently.

Activists from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) took to protests in front of the hospital as they demanded the authorities to reveal how Ruchitha suffered severe burns.
