Srikakulam: A married woman committed suicide on Thursday at Pathivadapalem in Srikakulam. The victim's parents lodged a complaint against their son-in-law claiming that she died due to dowry harassment.

According to the relatives and police, Uppala Gurumurthy and Dhanalakshmi (22) from Vijayanagaram district got married on April 18. Within a few months, both the families had arguments over extra dowry. Since the woman was pregnant, she went to her parent's house during the Dussehra festival.

On October 30, Gurumurthy's grandmother passed away. Dhanalakshmi went to his house on the same day. Unexpectedly, she committed suicide by hanging herself around 6 PM. Her parents learned the matter and rushed to the spot. Muthyala Venkataramana, the father of victim filed a complaint in J.R. Puram police station. He alleged that his daughter died due to harassment from Gurumurthy demanding extra dowry. The police examined the place of incident and sent the body to RIMS hospital for postmortem. Based on the complaint given by the victim's father, the police filed a case against Gurumurthy, Pidi Raju, Appala Raju and Mohan who were later sent for remand. The police has started probing the matter.
