Man Sets Wife Afire To Claim Insurance Money And Clear Debts

Anantapur: In a tragic incident, A man allegedly killed his wife to claim insurance amount. The incident took place on Monday at Basireddypalli in Kadapa district.

According to the police, the accused Gajjala Subba Reddy and the victim, Malleswari got married 25 years ago. Subba Reddy depended on the earnings of his wife who was a farm labourer. Meanwhile, Subba Reddy purchased lands in the village by taking loans from money lenders. The lenders forced him to repay the money and he suffered losses when he tried selling his lands. His debts reached Rs 6 lakh during past few months. His wife Malleswari suggested to him to sell the land to clear the debts.

Rama Subba Reddy made a plan to clear the debts by taking an insurance policy in the name of his wife and repaying the debts after her death through claiming insurance. According to the plan, he insured his wife for Rs 6 lakh and on October 25th, he immolated Malleswari by leaking the LP gas cylinder connection. When the flames engulfed his wife, he fled away. The locals found the incident and shifted her to the Kadapa RIMS hospital but she died the next day due to her severe burn injuries. The police filed a case and a hunt is on to nab the criminal.
