Adilabad: Two youth lost their lives in a boat mishap while trying to take a selfie. The deceased were identified as Sonu (22) and Sofil (23). On Wednesday, Sonu, Sofil, Umer, Irfan and Mansur had gone to Rajura, Chandrapur district to take part in Muharram celebrations.

On Thursday, while they were returning home, they went for boating at Penang Mukudband, Maharashtra. They were trying to take a selfie when the boat was in the middle of the lake. Meanwhile, the boat overtuned and bent to one side and flipped. Immediately, the locals took security measures to rescue the boys. But, Sonu and Sofil had completely drowned dnd died while Umer, Irfan are severely ill and were shifted to RIMS hospital for treatment.

In a similar incident, A 33-year-old woman from Delhi died after falling into a 500-ft deep valley while taking a selfie at Matheran, a popular hill station in neighboring Raigad district on June 20th, 2018.

The victim, Sarita Rammahesh Chouhan, fell into the valley while taking a selfie at Louisa Point at Matheran, Additional Superintendent of Police of Raigad, Sanjay Patil, said. "Chouhan had come to Matheran, a hill station known for its mild climate and well-preserved colonial architecture, with her husband and three children yesterday," he said.

Around 6.30 pm, all the family members went to Louisa Point. There, all of them started clicking selfies and photos. However, while taking a selfie, the woman slipped and fell into the deep valley, another official said. Shaken by the incident, her family members approached Matheran police, after which a rescue operation was launched, he said.
