Fake IAS Officer Marries Minor At Srirangam Temple

Chennai: A case was registered against a 33-year-old man for marrying a minor girl at Srirangam on Thursday.

Gandhi Kannan, who pretended to be an IAS officer married the girl at a temple in Srirangam. On a tip off, the officers of Social Welfare Department rushed to the temple to prevent the marriage from happening but the wedding has already taken place, it is learnt. The families had fled before they could reach the spot.

Later, the officers sought police help to trace the bride's home to rescue her. But the bride's mother told the police her daughter is  19 years old. But the police called the girl's school to verify her age and learnt that she was just 16.

The police registered a case against Gandhi Kannan, his mother Saroja, victim's mother Jayanti. Jayanti has been sent for questioning while the other two have gone absconding. The police have launched a hunt to trace the groom who works as an RDO in Tiruvallur.
