Man Attacked For Raising Muslim Girl

Hyderabad: Papalal Ravikanth, a painter based in the city, was allegedly stabbed by two men on June 1 for adopting a Muslim girl, who lost her parents in the Gokul Chat bomb blast in 2007. Ravikanth, who is undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital, claims that he and his wife have been raising the child, ever since they found her at the bomb blast spot. However, it did not go down well with his neighbors, who have threatened him for adopting a girl from the Muslim community.

According to the police, a youth named Balakrishna who resides in the same locality, bore a grudge on Ravikanth for petty issues. In a bid to take revenge on Ravikanth, Balakrishna, along with a juvenile friend attacked him with knives.

“We have opened a history-sheet against Balakrishna and planning to invoke Preventive Detention (PD) Act against him as he was earlier involved in a murder case,” M. Ravindar Reddy, Shahinayathgunj Inspector, said.
