City Police Arrest Conmen

Hyderabad: The Commissioners Task Force of the North zone, Hyderabad city police arrested two conmen who had allegedly cheated around 2,000 gullible customers to the tune of Rs 9 crore by making fake promises plots, holiday packages and health club memberships.

Acting on a tip-off, the Task Force cops raided the office of Fortune Group of Estates and Services in Khairatabad. Its directors Shaikh Khader Basha and P. Vijay Kumar, were held and questioned.

The cops are reported to have seized the firm's records, including membership cards, pamphlets, documents related to allocation of plots, mobile phones, silver coin gift packs and holiday package coupons, among other things. The police also seized cash worth Rs 8 lakh and Rs.15,000, it is learnt.

The conmen appointed around 30 youth as marketing executives. They were given the task of collecting contact details of people who visit various shopping malls and multiplexes. As per their elaborate plan, the executives at the customer care would then call 'lucky'customers to inform them that they had won a prize. They would then give the location of a well-known hotel in the city, according to the Commissioners Task Force.

The modus operandi was to then lure customers and get them to become members of the company. Police are carrying out investigations in the case.
